Allen Joseph Benko, 73, of Clifton, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Born in Passaic, he was a lifelong resident of Clifton where he graduated from Clifton High School. Allen then graduated from William Paterson College and Montclair State University with a teaching degree. Before his retirement, he was a teacher in the high schools of the Elizabeth Board of Education.
Allen was a faithful parishioner of Ss. Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church, Clifton where he was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served honorably during the Vietnam War. Allen was a member of the American Legion.
He was predeceased by his parents. John and Irene (nee Halupka) Benko; two brothers, Robert Benko and John Benko, Jr.; one nephew, Rick Daniel and one great-niece, Jillienne.
Survivors include: three sisters, Dolores Daniel and her husband, Richard of Stephen City, VA, Marcia Mann and her husband, Frank of Clifton and Mary Ann Kaminsky of Clifton; his nieces and nephews, Scott Daniel and his wife, Heather, Marci Mann, Frank Mann, Elizabeth Kearney and her husband, Jon, Amy Pilotti and her husband, David, Paul Kaminsky and Todd Kaminsky and his wife, Jaime; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Jake, Sydney, Ian, Lily, Braden, Dylan, Luke, Ethan, Daniel, Abigail, Rebecca, Delia and Samson.
Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral home, 515 Lexington Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be held Saturday 9:00 am from the funeral home followed by a 9:30 am Mass at Ss. Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church, 218 Ackerman Avenue, Clifton. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Facemasks must be worn.
